Hi,

I am on the verge of investing in my first quality hi-fi system. I am primarily interested in listening to music and I am seriously considering a Cyrus 8XPd with ATC SCM 11 or 40 speakers. However I would also like to use the same system for home cinema purposes. This is where the complications start as I have a projector as my "TV". This of course means that the projector is behind me in the room with the rest of the home cinema system (cable box, DVR etc.) while the speakers need to be in front of me.

By default of course my amp will also be behind me and thus to my first question:

1. Does it matter how long your speaker cables are? I could potentially need up to 15M of speaker cables from the amp to the speakers

2. Does it matter where the amp is positioned?

3. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there another way to set this up that I can't see at the moment.

Thanks,

Scott.

Generally speaking, the longer the cable run, the larger the cable cross sectional area should be.

A 15m pair of good quality cable to suit some ATC's would cost a few quid and also you would want a screened type cable if possible for a run that long, otherwise you risk introducing RFI interference.
