Hi,

Just bought a Marantz CD52MKII which I have demo'd for a couple of days now. Whilst it's a much needed improvement over my old set up I'm still not convinced it sounds right to my ears.

It sounds good with easy listening or pop but sounds a bit bright with rock which is my preferred style. My current amp is an Arcam Alpha 5 and wondered whether I'd gain anything swopping to a Marantz amp to match the CDP brand. (possibly a PM4000) or is the Arcam better?

Speakers are Mission 70's which I plan to upgrade later this year.

Regards

John

Don't swap the Alpha 5 for a Marantz PM4000. The Arcam is definitely better!

The CD52MkII is a relatively bright sounding player and divides opinion. What interconnects and speaker cables are you using? It may just be a case of having to fine-tune the sound.

Not sure of the exact specs etc. but the speaker cable is QED and it's just less than 1/2" thick and the interconnects are unbranded (not the cheapo nasty items that look like supermarket value ones) they're directional and it says Digital Fully Shielded PC-OFC on the cables. They also have gold plated plugs.
