Marantz PM-66SE

Have just updated my PM66se to a PM7003, after one of the channels in the 66se gave up the ghost.

I think the 66se was a good amp, but the 7003 is far superior.

the 66se retailed at around £400 when I bought it, and I picked up an ex demo one for £270. Im pretty sure this was around 1999 and it was 'end of line' stock, so they are over 10 years old now.

If I had to buy one again i probably wouldnt pay any more than 50 quid for one. That may be me being a bit tight!

If you like Marantz you can get a 6003 for £250 and the 7003 for around £350 if you shop around.

Hmm, yeah I do like the look of the 6003 combo but can't really afford it, sadly :-(

So i'm trying to build up a decent system of second hand parts for less than or equal to the price of a brand new budget separates system. My price benchmarks being a CA 340 system or Denon's D-M37 DAB with speakers ie £300-350, but spread over a few months. And hopefully resulting in a better system than these.

At the minute I have nothing

Well, a PM-66KI went for around £150 on ebay recently - if you can find one of these Ishiwata-tuned versions of the standard PM-66 for sensible money, that'd be a great buy.

I still have a PM-66KI in my cupboard, sadly in need of repair. I keep meaning to dig it out and take it somewhere - since it's been mentioned, anyone any ideas where'd be a good place to take it in the London area?

EDIT - apologies for the small hijack...

One of the KI Signature amps would be nice, but i'm really just looking for something to get started that will cost me less than a current budget set-up, which is why I was asking about the standard 66SE.

Compared to my (pretty terrible) PC 2.1 set up surely most 'proper' hifi kit is a step up, but i'm just trying to avoid buying something that was never really any good when it was new.
