Marantz player with Rotel amp and MA RX6

In the current issue of What Hi Fi?, the Marantz CD 6003 was paired with the new Rotel RA-04SE amp with B&W 685 speakers.

Would the Marantz CD 6003 with Rotel RA-04SE amp work with the Monitor Audio RX6? Or other MA speakers?

Or would the NAD 545 CDP and NAD 355 amp work better with the MA RX6?

I know the key is auditioning but any advice from any?

In think you may need a more powerful amp than the RA-04SE to get the most from the RX6s , perhaps the RA-06SE would be better suited, being 70 watts per channel as opposed to the 40 of the 04SE.

Im not aware of what the synergy is like between rotel and monitor audio so others would have to advise on that matter. Though from what others have said, NADs work very well with monitor audio, the NAD 355 being able to get the best from the RX6s.

If you did want the smaller rotel amp why not look at the RX1s or RX2s?

NAD C545BEE and C355BEE are a great match for the Silver RX6's.

Yup; the NAD C355BEE amp and C545BEE CDP are a great match for the M/A RX6's (as you can see in my signature below

)

The Rotel is a great amp and would do very well with either the Marantz CDP, NAD CDP or even possibly a Rega Apollo but it wouldnt do the RX6's justice.

In saying that it'd still be a good system witht eh likes of the M/A RX2's or the EB Acoustic EB1's as well as the B&W 685's. On decent stands these are all find standmount speakers (probably the best 3 IMO under £500)

get a demo of the rega mira 3 and appollo with the rx6's and throw in a good rel sub with decent interconnects, it sounds amazing

It's nice to hear that someone chooses Rotel amp over Marantz amp...because that's my choice too 🙂

However, jammers999 is correct that Rotel RA-04SE not being able to bring the best out of Monitor Audio RX6

I have MA RX6 with my 3 years old RA-04 and a RB-1050 (which makes it sound a little better with a power amp.. though RB-1070 will be great

). And I find that this set up is good enough for a small room of 5 meters in size. -Running on Marantz CD player and Thorens turntable.

You can either opt for a Rotel power amp or like what MUSICRAFT suggest.. a more expensive higher level amp from NAD.

But I believe different brand of amp such as "Entry Level" Rotel and NAD, works differently on the types of music you listen to.

My personal opinion on entry level amp is that NAD has a more direct bass output which is good for Pop, Dance and R&B type of music. As for Rotel, it's bass is kind of spread out, slightly warm feel, and has a better soundstage for Jazz and Audiophile vocal.

By the way, MA RX6 is considered by many as a bright speaker. You may wanna match it with the right amplifier; not neccessary a warmer amplifier as it can bring down the excitment that MA RX6 produces from the music..
