Marantz MCR 603

I have had this unit for some time and have used as a tuner only. It is connected to my Audiolab 8200CDQ which acts as a preamplifier. The other day I played a cd on the Marantz and was surprised how good the sq was. So I then played the same cd on the 8200CDQ Ifound the Audiolab to be more detailed but also slightly brighter. This is useful as I have a few cds that dont sound too good but not so bad on the Marantz.

As anyone else used the Marantz as transport only and what do they think of it.
