Hi...

I'm looking at the Marantz M-CR603 as a one box solution for a small living room.

Furniture wise we are a bit pushed for space in terms of speaker size (subject to decisions for wall-mounting etc. I've read, in What Hi-fi and elsewhere, that it really needs a fair pair of speakers to shine - do I really need to be looking at something like BX2s or would I be OK with something smaller like some Q2010s?

Ben

Just bought an M-CR603 upgrading from a 9 year old Denon UD-M30 but still using the mission speakers that came with the Denon.Any help on whether putting more money on the credit card for newer speakers (if the sound quality will be better) or the speakers ive got (all be it 9 years old) will do the job ,would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks.

Hello all...

Further to my earlier post, I demo'd the Marantz at the weekend with the following:

- MA BX2s (great detail, but far too bright for me)

- B&W 685s (very good, although not as good overall as...)

- Kef Q300s (...which were great bass-wise, mid-range and at the top end)

I was then tempted by the Kef Q500 floorstanders, which sounded even better than the Q300s.

I am now going to go for floorstanders, probably the Kefs, but have one other question. I have not had an opportunity to listen to the Marantz with the highly regarded Dali Zensor 1s, but just wondered if anyone (WHF staff?!) has any experience of the Zensor 5s? I cannot find any reviews anywhere - does it necessarily translate the floorstander version of great bookshelfs will be significantly better again? (as I have found with the Kefs).

Cheers

Ben

I'm really tempted by the Kef q100, if I go for the 502 (mentioned in another thread) I can quite stump up for them. But either the Tannoy V1 or Dali zensors mentioned sound like better value options.

Bit concerned by the rear port on the Dali though.

Hi Ben, they were reviewed on page 14 of the October magazine! And they are going to be reviewed in the November edition against similar models. Time to buy a copy, maybe - it's out on Friday! 😉

how embarrassing - thanks nopiano - have been pouring over the October issue all week and for some reason have completely missed that review!

will check out the group test next issue...

thanks again...
