I have just bought one second hand and was wondering why you have to switch off the amp when changing class A/B settings.

And running in class A i have about 2 inches from the top of the amp to the glass on my stand is this ok?

If you try to change between class B to A while the amp is on, then you will probably damage either your amp or speakers or most likely both.

A gap of two inches from the top of your amp to the glass shelf while running in class A mode is not enough.

Amps running in class A produce a lot of heat so if you are looking to run your marantz is this mode, then you will have to move it to the top of your equipment rack.

Hope this helps.
