Ok, bit of a strange one this but I'd like to pick your collective brains! As we all know after sales mains cable companies sat that thier leads can improve the sound of hi-fi kit for audiophiles (not commenting as I'm deaf) BUT are they also of use to those of us who want a cleaner image on our video gear (TV's and what not). Many years ago when I could still hear I used to run my big Marshall guitar amp though a surge protector an I swear it got rid of the mains hum! So my question is....how big an issue do we think mains hum / interference is on picture quality?

My Marshall is also hum! (and my mate's too)

my Marshall has Valve though and may be the tubes need changing but

I will try it with after market main cables to see if it will cure the hummmmmm.

I can hear the alert signal sounding in Drummerman and Masterbluster's bat caves as we speak....

Oh dear, I've opened a rift haven't I?

It made a big difference to me. Having a power supply that is polution free, stabilized and surge protected cuts out the interference that smears both the sound and picture that is found on the mains.
It is such a cost effective upgrade IMHO

There is nothing wrong with using a cheap conditioner and surge protection is a good idea.

But...they don't affect picture or sound quality.

Yeh it does make a difference, I agree. The only question you got to ask is 'Does it justify the outlay?' As some of the mains cables are bank breaking stuff.

The only question I have to ask is "Why does anyone buy them when they can make no difference"?

Thanks for the replies guys and I'm sorry for going over well trodden ground. I think I'll invest in a good surge protector / Power conditioner 🙂
I agree that some of those mains cables are stupidly exspensive but I guess if you take your audio seriously then it's a good investment.

If you also know about electronics you will know that it ain't a good investment but just a waste of money..

That certainly seems to be what he's suggesting.

lol this forum makes me laugh reading some of these threads it seems like a permanent battle of opposite opinions

Reminds me of the old saying...... There's only 10 type of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't.

Just like real life, 1 man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Even deciding on the best biscuit is hard enough, never mind all this hifi buisness. Some say hob nobs , some say crunch creams. Go figure.

A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

I have one of those, so asked him. He says you can be the Pink Lady and he'll be the International Super Spy.

No, I don't get it either.
