i'm thinking of buying a blu-ray player, a sony BDP-S350 or samsung BD-P1500 . i may buy another model at a discounted price. because my yamaha dsp-ax861se has no hd audio inputs. is it better to connect the blu-ray via 7.1ch analogue multichannel inputs or via hdmi lpcm. which would sound better.

Second attempt at this answer, as first one had wires crossed - it's been a long day here on the forums!

Yes the Linear PCM connection will work fine, using the player's onboard decoding. And a single HDMI cable of reasonable quality will be more cost-effective than three pairs of good analogue interconnects.
