Lost for upgrade ideas.

Hi there

My system consists of a Linn Axis with a basik plus arm, K9 cartrage with a ATN95A stylus.a 1980`s Audiolab 8000A amp, Denon TU 260 L tuner and a Sony CDP-XE330 CD player and a pair of JPW Sonata speakers hooked up with Linn K20 cable. I am looking for any ideas on MM cartrages that may suite my turntable £100 or so, a power amp but not a Audiolab as they are beyond my budget £200, a pair of speakers with nice deep bass ether standmount or floorstanding but cant be rear ported as they will have to stand about 6 ins from the wall £150-200. I have used my amp as a per with my brother-in-law LK100 and was impressed how well it performed. I listen to mainly guitar/ rock from AC/DC.Ry Cooder.Floyd all the way to Zappa. I realise the sums of money I am quoting I am looking at secondhand but any advice would very helpful.

You have good sources and a very capable amp...

I think you should combine your resouces and get some new speakers as opposed to spreading your money thinly across your system.

£400-500 will get a very decent set of speakers (especially used/ex demo) that will make the most of the Audiolab.

A change of cartridge might be of benefit- especially if yours has seen a lot of use and/or is quite old.

Try an Ortofon 2M Red for starters, or maybe a Grado Prestige Gold for the next notch up.
