But there is so much choice!

The last turntable i owned was a michell syncro, not my favourite tbh.

I have a budget of around £500 and am looking initially to use it with ATC50 SCM monitors.(I already have these)

What do people think would be a good starting point with this budget available.

I feel quite lost with all the products out there that are available!

I am open to anything in that price bracket.

There is however plenty of choice out there. I dont like buying without good advice.

I gererally find that hard to get from retailers..

stevebrock is quite right but you may be looking at £550 for one fitted with a cartridge.

Do you already have a cartridge?

I know quite a few turntables these days come without a cover of any sort, is this a no no for you?

Look out for a second hand Roksan Radius 5 if you can, they are particularly good but again they do not have a cover.

I would stear clear of Technics SL1200 direct drives and the like.

If you are competent fitting a cart then a used Roksan is possible, however I would avoid buying one off the bay unless you can collect it! BBB had a nightmare buying one.

Not sure what the RP3 without cart retails at but Alears is correct its £550 with an Elys2 and this is not a shabby deck, however I would put a different cart on, maybe Ortofon Red?

But it's come good in the end.

Are you saying I'm useless at fitting cartridges Steve?

For £500 you cab get some amazing 2nd hand kit.

Agree.

New the only choices are from Rega and Project, neither to shabby it has to be said but for £500 I'd be also looking s/h.

Having said that, you almost certainly have to budget in a new cartridge/stylus that way.

There's a Revolver tuntable on ebay for £149.

Not as beautiful as the Thorens but a very decent s/h buy. Much better sound quality than a new budget deck imo. Replace the AR cart with an MP110 or even an AT95 and this would sound pretty damn good. Jelco rebranded tonearm is a feature;I think they fetch about £300 these days. Worth a look for the price.
