Looking for really cheap speakers and cd player for my brother

I am intending to give my brother either the NAD C320 or the Rotel RA-931 amplifier, probably the latter as the NAD is easier to sell

. I do have a cd player I can give him it's a phillips, he is still at the stage of thinking his JVC mini system is the bees, so he will think it's a step up but am pondering whether to look for a second hand cd player for him, also need some speakers.

My budget is about 100.00, not a lot i know,

Any ideas guys?

He'll love the B&W 601 speakers - pref. the S3 version...as for a CD player, look no futher than the Marantz CD63 (pref. KI Signature) or the Arcam Alpha 8.

OP, give your brother the CD player you've got and spend the money on speakers. Do you have a Richer Sounds in your vicinity?

Both superb suggestions. The Tannoys are well worth the extra 30 quid but the Eltax Monitor IIIs are fabulous value for the sound they give.

The Tannoy F1's are great little speakers and can be bough for less than £100 now as well 🙂

The B&W 601 S2's or sometimes the S3's can be bought on eBay for less than £100 as well so dont rule them out

Superb little speakers with hell of a lot of punch for their size 🙂

Cheers fellas, can you also recommend some cheap speaker cable and interconnects? i do have the ones which come with the phillips cd player but don't know whether they will be sufficient.

Well they were apparently given 5 stars by WHF in 1999 so I would think they are pretty decent, although compared to newer offerings I don't know how they would stand...

Thanks guys for your suggestions, in the end I opted for the mission M71 at 40.00 on ebay, they were a steal, in great condition and I know they were thought highly of. Now I have hooked them and heard them properly all I can say is they are cracking little speakers.
