Hi guys

I am after an amp unit to just to power and have volume control over some outdoor speakers from my zone2 output on a cyrus8xpd

As the only source being played off it will be from my mac mini, through the 8xpd I just need 1 input.

an extra 1 maybe for an ipod. so it can be used independant of the mac/cyrus in the front room.

budget can be a anything up to £200. but if anything is more than that, please dont be shy!

Thanks

Jon

Joking aside, I run one of these. As the amp in my main hifi.

Not the loudest, but remarkably accurate. Best £25 I've ever spent.

If its for outdoor speakers, I have heard the amps already mentioned are very good for the money (I have not heard them myself).

What you need to ensure is that the amp would be powerful enough for your speakers. Check the sensitivity of the speakers. In a garden, if the speakers are a distance away, and low sensitivity, 20W may not do it for you.

Hi there

Well they will only be about 5-6m away from the amp it think.

i like MA speakers and there is a very friendly dealer near me, so i was looking at these

They look nice you have heard it then?

There is definatley quite a few of these little amps cropping up and doing a good job now.

and with the desktop market only going to get bigger, i think a grouptest would be a great idea for the mag

Two mates of mine have the Bantam Golds - Very big sound from a little amp with excellent control and timing. A tall and wide soundstage too much better than my Nad 320BEE

One off them is running Kef Floorstanders (91db) and an Arcam rDac and it sounds very Good...

They are one of best Bargains around...

Come on WHF get a review going!!

I honestly think that if unless you listen at high volumes (by which I mean neighbour-annoying), these little amps are amazing, and not just "amazing for the price".

I sold my Naim pre/power after I bought mine. They can't do the same volume, but to my ears were more detailed at normal listening levels.

They also use a fraction of the electricity, as they don't waste energy as heat - they stay cold.

I would urge anyone with the remotest interest to take a £30 punt on one...
