Listening to vinyl via Sony DA1200ES

I know, I know. I'm never going to get anywhere near the quality of a dedicated stereo amp when I play vinyl through an AV receiver.

I have AE Aego T 5.1 speakers, a Sony DA1200ES receiver and a Project Debut t/table.

Playing vinyl via the phono inputs on the receiver.......well, its lame, enough said.

Is there anything I can buy to inject a bit of enthusiasm? Bring the wow factor back to my vinyl?

I'm guessing that I will need to add a decent stereo amp and a decent pair of speakers, but maybe someone has found an alternative.

External phono stage like the Cambridge 540P will be an improvement on the one in the 1200 though as you've said you'll get bigger improvements if you get a good stereo amp.
