hello

managed to borrow a Naim DAC from my audio shop, I have it connected to my 13" MAC book pro, via optical. and then got the dac connected to the amplifier using the Atlas Titan interconnect.

I am trying to play music in itunes, but i get no sound -

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Stan

Are you sure? I just plugged my vdac in via he optical and it worked.

hello peeps

for whatever reason, the dac does not show up in the sound settings on the mac. I have found some instruction on the ayre acoustics webpage, which apparently if you connect the ayre dac to the mac it does show in the settings.

Do you need to do anything in itunes?

Mighr have to join the naim forums see if they can advise.

thanks

iTunes is not the problem.

Go into 'utilities' and open 'Audio Midi Setup'.

Configure it so that it 'sees' your DAC as the default audio output device.

Press the configure button and take it from there.

Ensure your DAC is connected and powered on first.

hello chebby

that seems to be the problem - i go into audio midi setup, there is no configure button. there is a 'configure speakers', but that certainly isn't it.

There is a drop-down menu in the botton left hand corner of the this window. This has the options to configure speakers or configure device. the only problem is the configure device is greyed out, and i can't select it.

very frustrating

any ideas

no, not a stupid question.

If there is a way of enabling the optical out, if in fact that has to be done, can someone tell me how to do it.

thanks

is it not possible to just look to see if theres light coming from the other end of the lead, this would tell you if theres a data stream being sent

Yeah - a bright red light is visible when the music is playing on the laptop.

Got it working now

the input that the laptop was plugged into was faulty - suppose its a good job the DAC has quite of few of them ARRGGGHHH!

thanks anyway all

I thought your problem might be that the Naim DAC only recognises WAV files.

Very interested to know how you think it compares the the Leema CD player!

Surely that would only work if a DAC was connected via USB, and was able to act as an audio device the computer would recognise. Which the Naim DAC isn't.

If connecting by optical digital this set-up isn't relevant.
