My Kef PSW 2000 subwoofer (part of a 6+ year old Kef KHT 2005 speaker set) has developed the buzzing sound of death. This is the second time this has happended, the first time it was repaired under warranty some years ago. This seems to be a common fault with Kef subs but I believe I could have it repaired again for c£120.

I'm wondering whether this time to go for a new and better sub but should you always go for the same manufacturer for all surround sound speakers? Or can a sub be an exception to this rule? If so has anyone some suggestions for alternatives? I'm OK to go up to £300 for a sound improvement over the Kef (and hopefully) a more reliable piece of kit.

It might just stretch you a little more but you can get the Kef HTB2 for £499 now and there is also a £100 trade in for your current sub. For £400 I dont think you will get a better match for your 2005's.
