I am peferctly happy with my HiFi and my TV system , but i heard some KEF R500's a year ago too much boomy bass I blamed the tiny amp ( nad 3020d ) and tiny room , everything else was good vocals where best part of perfect . i got a set of eggs and they never fail to ENJOY me for movies so I want to try the speakers in HiFi

I have a burning desire to try a pair of r500's , what would you guys stand against them ? or should I just borrow a pair

The R500s, as with most of the R series, need a firm control from the amp and reasonable room to breathe...though the bungs can help....otherwise they can sound boomy.

IMO. The R700s are a good step up, but need a bigger room.....they are the sweetspot of the range.

You need to try in your room to know if these are for you.

My amp is 150w into 8 ohms , my Dali's are 4ohm 90sens , 2 1/2 way ,2 feet out in the room , room is 4x5 meters , Im thinking the r500s , the 700's need more space , but i'd try them

Its going to take awhile , I dont move very fast , I am thinking KEF after 2 years , I move slow but I almost always get it right <S> going to go kef if nothinging changes

Look at my thread "An audition" (I'd post the link but it doesn't seem to work in this new forum).

The R500s are very nice but as CNo says the R700s are much better. They are big beasts though so you need to consider the room you are going to put them in. So if you can stretch to the R700s and they are suitable for your room then I would go for them. I don't think you would be disappointed with the R500s though.

Hope you don't mind me posting a working link for you *smile*

If you do I will of course delete it immediately .

What size is your room Chris ? if I am going to change my speakers I need maximun return , the differance between zero and the two speakers is negliable

I live in a "loft" apartment so "room" is a difficult concept. It's about 1000 sq ft with double height ceilings and the R700s fill it with sound. I didn't hear the R500s here but where I did hear them the R700s were a a significant step better. If the price isn't important my recommendation is clear, R700s. I've been in thrall to them ever since I have had them.
