I just had an email back from a very leading Hi-fi store , that they have stopped trading with KEF, There exact quote in the email is " I'm afraid. Nothing wrong with the product - we just didn't like the company! "

Does anyone know if there is anything wrong with them. I have called KEF support once, for something as stupid as thier speaker specifications on website and manual dint match, and the guy dint fob me off by quick answers, he took his time and answered my other questions. Dont where KEF went wrong to pi*s the dealer off.

These sort of political spats happen between manufacturers and dealers (and manufacturers and magazines!) on a regular basis, and can be based on a billion and one different reasons, perceptions and incidents.

It's like life - people fall out, they make up, and no-one can quite remember what all the fuss was about.

Don't fret about it - if you want to hear KEF, go to another dealer: especially true if you're thinking of @£1000 surround speakers, as the KHT3005SEs are must-hear.

Otherwise, if you want to stick with that store, audition their other ranges: there's certainly no shortage of superb speaker brands out there.

I have recently bought the 2005.2 Kefs and during my hunt for the best price came across the Kef philosophy that they like their distributors to limit themselves to their geographical area.In other words they do not like an internet company in South England mailing their product to Aberdeen at 25% less than the local Aberdeen distributor which is all intended to protect the local dealers and in a lot of cases quite right too.

I nearly bought them from a store in Shrewsbury who were breaking this rule by despatching all over the country and then suddenly they were not advertising them anymore.I suspect it is more likely Kef have stopped dealing with the (ex) distributor rather than vice versa.

I have the 3005SE speakers and am very pleased. The ownership experience of these is very good. First thing you will notice is that the speakers are very well packed in sturdy polystyrene which does not crumble, are in triple ply cardboard boxes which themselves are in a triple ply outer cardboard box. The speakers feel assuredly weighty and are very well finished.

They are also supplied with soft material bags to protect the gloss finish of the speakers. The magnetic grilles are of a high quality and there well designed stands that double as wall brackets and even two mounting options for the centre (standard or rubber) and sub woofer (vertical on stand or horizontal on feet). All this before you connect them up and listen!

The binding posts are of a good quality and can accept 4mm plugs if you remove the caps using a drift.

The sound is IMO very impressive considering their size and the whole package is very 'partner friendly' (the missus hated the thought of them and the whole 'room full of speakers philosophy' until she saw them in our home!

These speakers are backed by a 5 year KEF warranty (one year for the sub woofer amp) so IMO this demonstrates that KEF have an excellent product and have faith enough to offer the 5 year warranty!

When I was shopping around fro mine (£799 from Frank Harvey), all dealers stated that the product had to be picked up from the store on the instructions of KEF. Perhaps this is why that particular dealer dis liked KEF.

All other reasons have been covered by Clare's response.

I have the kef kit 100 and i've had no trouble with the company , have offen phone and been put through to the tec. deptment, who have always been very helpful and sent me out regular upgrades.

Thanks guys , and i am refering to the same shrewsbury company!!

Btw I have alredy bought the KEF 5005.2 , they definatley are awsome! I liked them even more than the KEF 3005SE

I have a slightly larger KEF set up and from all of my dealings with anyone at KEF have found them supereb. The little rubber gromets that secure the covers on My iQ9's went a little flakey and KEF sent Me a good handfull of spares F.O.C.
