Hi all,

I'm looking to get a set of headphones to listen to through my Rotel amp and mac (or Fiio E7 that I might get), I mainly listen to the below:

Ambiant chill out (Zero 7, etc)Hip HopA touch of danceRock (The Beatles, Foo Fighters, etc)[/list]

I'm mainly looking for a pacey crisp tight sound with good bass (not muddled) but not too bright, my budget is around £200, I was looking to maybe get a second hand pair off eBay so I could get a little more for my money.

I've been thinking about:

Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro (80 ohm)

Audio Technica ATH-M50 (look cheap though)

Sennheiser HD600 (or 650)

AKG K550

Any opionions or thoughts on the above or recommendations?

Thanks

Paul

The Philips L1 will match the best of these in bass, it will also match the best of these in not-too-bright highs, and has an uncolored midrange (very important). It's efficient, ultra hifi, and the best bargain I know of at the moment.

Ah yeah the Philips L1, that sounds like a nice option, I am really tempted by those but I haven't seen any for sale here yet. Perhaps Paul can stretch his budget to those (and wait a bit) but then the Sennheiser 600/650 is above that level too - even in the second hand market most of the time.

Paul: Do you need sound isolation? I know you are looking at the Sennheisers but it's worth asking? Judging by your list it seems like you are looking for large circumaural headphones too, is that right? Otherwise I would recommend the VModa M-80. If you are ok with open back designs the AKG K701/2 is almost in your budget too and very good but lacks bass punch to some ppl.
