Reading these forums has been great for me with some much knowledge on offer, etc. but at times I feel lost among all the jargon being used, especially when it comes to home cinema. So just one quick question: what is the difference between an AV amp, receiver and processor?

Thanks for the enlightening!

The use of the term 'receiver' indicates that the amp has an integrated radio tuner. Where used, for 'processor' simply read 'amp/receiver', after all it's not just amplification that is being performed, there is processing of audio and/or video signals depending on connected sources.

What rogueelement say's, except "processor" usually means that it just does the processing and pre-amp duties and requires patnering with a multi-channel power amp.

rogueelement:I stand corrected!

Thanks for the clarification daveh75
