Just a quick question,

If i connected my iphone/ipod to my amp with the optional yamaha YDS-12 ipod dock would it then be using the amp DAC or the ipods??

Thanks

To do that you'd need one of the docks able to get a digital signal from the iPod, such as the Onkyo ND-S1 or the new Pure i20, and connect its digital output to one of the digital ins on the receiver.

What about the Bluetooth adaptor, wouldn't that use the AVRs DAC?

Would i get noticeably better SQ via either of those to options? Also, what is the point of yamaha making a specialized dock for there amps that doesn't use the amps dac! What else can i connect to the yamaha to make use of its dac, will playing a cd for example through my blu-tay player use it??

I'm using the dac on my 667. It's sounds pretty capable.

You'll need to connect digitally and bypass the dac on the source so with ipod get a digital dock (like Onkyo NDS1 then connect into the digital ins on the amp using coax/optical. On the 667 it is AV1/AV2.

If the source you choose has digitl out you can connect in the same way.

Think I'm right. One of the more knowledge posters will confirm if that's right or not.

So you can control music from your iPod using the Yamaha remote. Also, with just one cable output, it allows you to watch movies and pictures from your iPod as well as listen to music (most analogue docks would need 2 or 3 cables to allow this). Finally, it matches your Yamaha amp so everything looks lovely and matched on your rack.

If you have wi-fi at home, for a bit more money you can get an Apple Airport Express (or Apple TV). Connect that via optical to your Yamaha to use the Yamaha's DAC, and your iPod will be wirelessly connected.
