Hi, my daughter chose to give her iPhone 3GS to a "friend" to get it 'Jailbroken'......apparently this is quite normal for teenagers to do (ahem)....
However, after this young man had her phone, it is now defunct.....it will not allow the phone to activate.
I have tried plugging it into iTunes etc, but it seems locked up ?
Any advice, as usual, will be greatly appreciated received.....
Frustratedly yours...Richard...

Kids...!!...eh..?

You need to force ios on to the phone using dfu mode, read this article to understand more

Thanks for that Paul......have done the DFU reset, but when iTunes reloaded the software, it came up with no SIM in the iphone I was attempting to activate and to disconnect and put a SIM card into it.
I've gotten a new SIM card with credit on for my daughter, re-attempted to activate and still have the same result.
Do you or any other people on here have anymore suggestions please ?
Regards Richard.............. :wall:

Can you clarify a few things for me. Can you get past the activation screen to see the settings? What OS and Baseband do you have? Go to settings/General/About. Let me know what is listed as 'Version' and 'Modem Firmware'.

In the meantime, try this simple fix, it may work...

1. Turn off WIFI.

2. Turn off iPhone.

3. Remove and reinsert SIM.

4. Turned on iPhone. Wait for activation.

5. Turned WIFI back on.

If you cant get passed activation, try this...

1.) press "home" button

2.) select "emergancy call"

3.) type in 999 (Do not dial, obviously ;) )

4.) Hold the "lock/power" button until it says slide to power off.

5.) select cancel

6.) on the top of screen it will say "tap here to go back to call" select it

7.) end call and you will be in your iPhone until you lock it. You can do whatever you want except download apps music ect. You can get to the settings to find out Versions etc.

Hi Paul, thanks again for trying to help, so to your questions....
1)Can you get past the activation screen to see the settings?
The iPhone states unable to activate and no Sim card inserted.
2)What OS and Baseband do you have?
Unable to tell, due to above.
3)If you cant get passed activation, try this...

1.) press "home" button

2.) select "emergancy call"

3.) type in 999 (Do not dial, obviously )

4.) Hold the "lock/power" button until it says slide to power off.

5.) select cancel

6.) on the top of screen it will say "tap here to go back to call" select it

7.) end call and you will be in your iPhone until you lock it. You can do whatever you want except download apps music ect. You can get to the settings to find out Versions etc.

Attempted this fix, would not show step (6), when I selected cancel, it just takes you back to the iPhone icon page, prior to configuration.
Any more ideas please welcomed Paul etc....
Regards Richard....
