Hi,

I'm in the market for new speaker Cable & Interconnects.
Hoping you can help with your learned opinions.

OK, Shortlist of combinations are:

Chord Co. Carnival Silver Plus + Chord Co. Crimson

Chord Co. Rumour (Single) + Chord Co. Crimson

QED Silver Anniversary XT + QED Performance 2

Supra Rondo 2x2.5 + Supra Dual

Van den Hul the Bridge + Van den Hul The Name

From the combination you can tell the price range:
£40 for Interconnects
£5-6 Single Wire or £10 / metre Bi-wire Speaker Cable,
depending on replies to my other bi-wire thread

What do we think Gals & Guys?
Are there any others you would recommend in this price range??

My current system is below, looking to restore an old Thorens too as vinyl is my source of choice. May get a Rega P3 24 / Project Xpression III too.

Fianlly, I prefer a brighter sound & listen to a wide variety of music:
Classical, Jazz, Mid 70's to Mid 80's Soul/Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop(U2, Coldplay et al)

Thanks in advance.

From that list:

Chord Co. Rumour (Single) + Chord Co. Crimson

Used to use a Crimson on my TV; good for the cash. The Rumour is great wire IMO.

I'm very surprised.

There must be some Magazine people that will go by their recommendations of the QED Silver Anniversary XT.

Supra Ply 3.4S and Supra Dual.

I know you didn't list the Ply, but it sure is something else. Google around a little, it sounds phenomenal. The screen is really something else, at first I was sceptic thinking it wouldn't make a big difference, but just yesterday I disconnected it, and the 3D image became flat. The difference between the Ply and the Classic 4.0 I previously used to run is also quite staggering.

Thanks Jan,

Considering we've got the same speakers and both have Marantz components, I'll look into this cable.
you said you were going to bed. liar. and theres nowt wrong with cheap merlot.
There is EVERYTHING wrong with it if you don't like the medium body Merlot grape as I don't - Yuck.

But as with everything, It's your preference to what YOU like.

Personally I prefer a Cab Sav, Rioja or a Cold grown Pinot Noir, but hey that's MY preference.

Happy Tasting

Really, are you looking for 1 for restoration or just to buy & use?

Know of some CHEAP TD150's & TD160's - £40 a piece that need work some without arms, but an RB250 easily fitted.

If it's play out the box you want

I know of a lovely example of a TD160 Super (One of the better verions ) with "Henk the Fisherman" Plinth on it, if you'd be interested.

Let me know

Buy and usage on a daily basis, restoration if need be. I've spotted some nice ones, but the ones with an SME3009 usually go way too high in price. That is, way higher than I'm willing to pay.

Your offer sounds enticing, but how high would that one run me, and maybe more importantly, would it work hasslefree (without any mods or extra electric accessoires) here, in mainland Europe.

I should think so.

I have pictures if your interested.

The seller is an arm specialist.

The Super £150 , no arm (just checked)

I spoke to Henk yesterday and he quoted me £140 for Wood with Mahogany Plinth as this example has - Bargain !!

I would have snapped it up, but I want a Black Plinth.

Send me your email by pm or on here & I'll send the pictures.

Henk Plinth here : http://www.theanalogdept.com/henk.htm

This one has a Linn LVX Arm on it. Have seen Rega RB250's on then too.

RB300 better out of the box, but RB250 better for modding.

TD160 Super is quite Rare, but as I said on eof the better versions.

This is a fantastic Thorens resource if you not seen it already.

IMPO the Merlot gives me a nasty dry taste left in my mouth.

I prefer FULL bodied Reds, Like Chateau Nuf De Pap.

I find light & medium Reds a waste of time for my pallette.

I'll tell you what it's like:

Let's say you go to someones house to visit.

They ask if you would like a drink

They only have dilute e.g. Ribena

When they bring it out, you taste it, it looks like Ribena but tastes like water.

They were stingy with the dilute. IF I WANTED WATER I WOULOD HAVE ASKED FOR WATER.

My Personal definition of Light Bodied Red Wine.

Each to their own, BUT, Gimme the FLAVA !

Depends how you define Cheap.

Easy drinking New World are usually safe bets if trying to find the preference for your palette.
