Intelligent Frame Creation - yes or no? Or when?

Hiya,

Yesterday I took delivery (from the good people of John Lewis) my new TX-P42G10B.

My first impression is that it is in every way an improvement on my now defunct TH-42PX80 (not to diss the old boy too badly!).

In moving from an HD-ready to 'Full HD' I was most amazed by the quality of SD, as I feared that it might be drgraded by processing it up to that res. So very pleased. HD looks good, although its true text will come when the footy season starts!! 🙂)

Tried a DVD, with my Pioneer LX-50 and was too impressed.

I know it is generally received wisdom here that all picture processing whould be turned off and mine now is.

But I keep reading the theory of Intelligent Frame Creation and how it 'smooths' the picture. I also read peoples experiences who say its not great for sports! I would have thought that is where it might shine.

Can anyone please tell me if I should have Intelligent Frame Creation on or off. Or when my pic might benefit from it??

🙂

I have my IFC set off for normal tv / PS3 gaming etc. However I do switch it on for Blu Ray 24FPS material.

Hope that helps

I have a V10. I use THx mode for all viewing except gaming but i use cinema mode with IFC on for sports. I am still not too sure if i prefer movies with it on or off though? Some scenes look ace, some look rough.

Just for CGI based movies, i.e WallE etc

I find it rather annoying really, some of it looks great, but a bit animated effect for me

Wonderful - a lady who is loojking forward to the start of the football season

Going back to the OP and other posts - yep, we'd suggest toggle on/off as you prefer.

What's wrong with IFC - why would you not want it on? What's unnateral about it?

I use Cinema mode on the V10, as THX mode has overscan on. This can't be altered in thx and results in a loss of picture (a slight zoom in effect).

Quick question. My tv is about a month old and I've noticed a touch of image retention. Yesterday I turned my bd player off when the credits where on the screen, and switched the tv off and the credits where sitll there, albeit very, very faintly - they disappeared after a couple of minutes. Is this normal?

Thanks

yeah thats normal, mine did it more during the 200 hr break in

Might get a little bit here and there but turning on freeview clears it up

ok, thanks. Yeah, mine's still during its first 100-200hrs I guess. I'm keeping the contrast and brightness fairly low at close to 40% for now - I watch in dark conditions so I don't need them too high anyway.

I have a V10 panny and IMHO would recommend keeping IFC off.

I found that it with some pictures it just makes the look like they were filmed with a video camera.
It seemd to give a odd 3d effect depth to some pictures that just looks wrong.
On other pictures I could just see not much difference at all.

I thought how could the IFC be so bad when it was much a much advertised feature?

that will be fine, leave it on those settings, or the Cinema default settings then after the 200 mark, calibrate with a THX disc

Hmm i agree, pretty much the feature I was intrested in last year when comparing the spec to the Pz80, could of got a 46-50 pz80 for the price I paid compared to the PZ85

oh well

Yes, it is normal. Please do not stare at a blank screen with everything switched off, it's bad for your eyes

How are the 1950s, Joel? You must be hating the music, but loving the attitudes....
