Sorry that this probably isnt the correct forum, but here we go.

I currently have a WD Live Hub in my living room with all my / kids movies on that can be played on demand and it does its job brilliantly. I got to thinking, wouldnt it be great if I you could have a dual screen system for the kids in the back of the car that would do a similar job as the live hub.

Currently all the in car entertainment systems seem to be DVD only (Philips seem to have a blu-ray one in the US but not here). I cant believe that one of the companies over havn't picked up on this as I'm sure there would be lots of other people who would want something like this to keep the kids happy / quite on those long car journeys.

Does anyone else know of a way to do something like this or is it just something thats been completely overlooked by the manufacturers ? It would be so much simpler to have all the movies in one place and not have to carry around all the DVD's in the car.

The only advantage I can see is if you you have a blu ray only disc of a film & want to watch it in car. There won't be any difference in picture quality on such a small screen. The manufacturers will find it difficult to sell in car blu ray players for this reason.
Blu ray technology is facing competition from online streaming so is unlikely to be a huge success as the DVD technology when it came. The manufacturers are no doubt closely watching the US market to see if in car blu ray succeeds.

I can understand that, but what about a dual screen system that allows you to play you digital movies from a usb hdd ? I could do without the optical drive if I had something similar to the WD Live Hub that allowed me to play my movie media on the car screens.

You mean something like this?:

I actually have one of the nextbase click and go models (I assume the mustek one is similar) and although they say they play divx and mpeg4 they only do so upto a max resolution of 640x480 and dont accept formats of NTFS and most of my media is >5GB which will not work with FAT32 file systems. What I was thinking about more, was something like the WD Live TV or the Sumvision boxes ( as some of those are really small and have good media compatability) built into a screen or even separate that could be plugged into a dual screen setup (would be better if it was an all in one solution)

there are many head units out there thar have a screen and a video out that will play DVDs and will play video from USB along with multi chanel sound.

I know you can get head units with the capability but I'm looking more for the rear seat entertainment than in the front.
