Would a DAC such as the Beresford TC-7520 be of any benefit between the Imac and the Zeppelin. At present 3.5 stereo cable, Digital out (Imac) to 3.5 stereo cable to Auxiliary in (Zeppelin)

As opposed to : Imac USB to DAC, DAC via 2 Phono analogue out RCA to 3.5 stereo cable, auxiliary in Zeppelin.

Anyone have a similar setup.

I don't really use the Zeppelin for listening to music via iphone anymore just through the Imac. Would a better desktop option be to replace the Zeppelin with maybe a used Cyrus 3 Integrated or equivalent power amp, the Beresford TC-7520 Dac/preamp and a pair of q acoustics 2020's, which could be had for around the same budget/desktop space as the Zeppelin.

An external DAC would be better than the DAC in the iMac. I don't know whether the Zeppelin is revealing enough to justify such an investment. It also depends on the quality of the files you're playing. Upsampling lossy mp3 files is not worth the money.

Incidently, the iMac has combination ports for both audio out and in. Depending on the type of connector it will send an analogue or a digital signal to the output. A digital connector is slightly longer and will trigger the digital out. This type of port is quite nifty. The input can be used for digital recording.
