If you hear nothing else at Bristol, hear these

JohnDuncan:1) Arcam. No really.
2) Spendor A9s on the end of an Akurate DS
3) Wilson BeneschFunnily enough when you asked the other day what you should see I was going to suggest Wilson Benesch, they always blow my mind, superb speakers - totally out of my price range though sadly.

And, er, PMC, eh?

First impressions of the Arcam Solo Neo?

None, didn't hear it. AVR500 and musos with two subs sounded gorgeous though. Al - the PMC demo was a bit too much for the room they were in IMO.

jaxwired:Spendor A9? Huh? When? Where?

I think that's what they were called. You can't afford them. 24/192 stream of neil young live - total realism. Stunning.

Fantastic. Wish I had the room. Well done Spendor

Wonder how they compare to the STs...

Most Interesting (But Won't It Get Dusty) Design goes to Isem for their eGo CD player (and hello to the charming people from Ikon Audio Consultants).

Hmmm, the Spendor room was the first one I went to. Had Eva Cassidy playing (I nearly left straight away), maybe it's a bad recording, I don't know, I'm not familiar with the material (which was a constant problem) but her vocals had a horribly hard, harsh edge to them, if it had been loud it would have hurt, as it was I couldn't listen to it for long. Like I say it may have been the recording, if it was then they should have chosen the material a bit better. Unfortunately I was on a tight time schedule (the missus was in Cabot Circus, with a big chunk of my cash...), otherwise I'd have asked them play something else but I couldn't hang around.

Thank you to them for hunting down the only Ortofon 2m Red they had in the room! Just need to find my calibration thing to align it when I get home...

Yes charming and very good at talking me into putting my name down for a demo of a system I can never afford. Oops... I think I hid my terror quite well when he mentioned it'd run to 5 figures... Luckily he spelt my surname wrong, so the email address I gave him won't work...

JohnDuncan: 3) Wilson Benesch

They were playing a live concert of someone, could have been Harry Belafonte, it was that kind of thing, on vinyl. Incredible, you might as well have been in the concert hall.

I wished I had the time this year. I'd be interested to hear your opinion on ATC on both speakers and amplification if they are displaying at all. Cheers

I believe John was referring to the Arcam demo of the AVR500 multichannel receiver with 5.1 Muso speaker system.

JohnDuncan:1) Arcam. No really.

And what the hell is that supposed to mean?

My views on Arcam's recent work have been well documenzzzzzzzzzz

But the AVR500/Muso setup was so good I went back to listen to it again just for pleasure...

JohnDuncan:I was. Sounded fantastic, even more so because of the modest volume being used...

And to all those doing 'requests'...I'm not there any more.

Ah, thank you both.
