As title says.....I have a str-db930 amp receiver. I bought this receiver about 8 years ago and im still pleased with how it performs....but technology marches on and i see receivers on the market now supporting hdmi, 7.1 etc...

I intend to keep my 5.1 speaker setup...is it worth upgrading?

I'm also in the same boat. I have a str-940 and i'm really pleased but i want something that offers better 2ch sound and has the latest home cinema codecs. I'm looking at the marantz sr-6003, yamaha rv-1900 and Denon avr-2809.

Ditto on the 940, but want to unleash HD from my PS3 so im after HDMI connectivity. Seems a shame as im well happy with every other aspect of the unit. Plus it matches the rest of my Sony QS gear looks wise.

I've just recently upgraded from Sony 930 to a Denon 2808. I only have some Kef 2005.2 speakers but found a big increase in sound quality. Watching DVD's there are lot more subtle effects coming through and the panning is miles better. I also ugraded my CD player at the same time from a Marantz CD 52 MKII SE to a CD6002. Music sound so much better also with greater stereo separation. It did take some setting up though to get the sound right for me. It has been well worth the cost of the upgrade.

Add the Onkyo 875 to your list.

Heavly discounted at the moment with it being replaced by the 876, will be a huge upgrade on both music and films.

I had/have the Sony 930 - upgraded to Sony 2400 last week mainly to get the benefit of HD sound formats from blu ray and I think it sounds better overall with any source. For around £400 I would recommend.
