ok ive been reading and im not really sure so i thought id ask... i have a really old laptop at uni that got given to me by a friend... and i dont have itunes or any music saved on it...

I recently bought b&w 685's and an NAD amp, and now im looking to get a CA DacMagic with Airport express rather than a 300 quid CDP. Anyway that said i was wondering weather the quality of the so called lossless files would be the same on any computer with itunes, or do different soundcards have different specs? eg this laptop couldnt run many new games because of a poor graphics card, and so can it not run lossless files because of poor audio hardware?

You can rip your cds with a correction facility turned on so that you get a perfet rip. Once this "file" is stored on your laptop in ITunes it's then sent digitally to the AE so nothing from the soundcard will effect it. Your only issue is the size of the files, if your laptop is not that great, I would imagine it doesn't have a large hard drive.

Laptop won't make any difference. As long as you have a wireless card in it, you should be ok. If you can't stream wirelessly, you can use a long USB cable (i use 5m cable). DacMagic acts like a soundcard so your comp's soundcard is completely ignored (both with USB and AE).

EDIT: It needs to have a fast enough processor and enough RAM to handle basic programs like iTunes. For storage you can hook up an external hard drive. Do you know the specs (RAM, processor speed) ?

i dont know the exact specs but it can handle photoshop so itunes should be ok... and as for the harddrive i already have one.... so i just rip lossless files and they get stored on that, hey presto
