hI.

After reading many threads on this forum re sky and denon 2310 lip sinc issues / recieving 5.1 from sky HD box, I have purchased an Optical cable( not yet fitted). At present any lip snc issues on my system are minimal and have not yet affected my viewing, so i will be intrigued to see if the addition of the optical cable causes problems? I have asked other denon 2310 owners on this forum to post any advice re problem solving.

A separate but related issue has arisen, thought I have a Humax freesat box connected to my AV via a van den hul hdmi and have found that i have no sound on any channel other than BBC HD? Do i require another optical cable? Or should i connect straight to TV (pioneer 508xd?) if so will this mean i will have to utilise the TV speaker as opposed to my Kef 3005se surround system?

Any advice given will be greatly received.

You probably need to turn up the volume on the Humax remote. For some techy reason beyond my level of comprehension, the vol on the HD broadcast is controlled purely by the amp, whereas SD broadcasts are controlled by amp and humax vol levels.

Tried that, no luck, strange!

any other ideas?

I just tried this and turning up the humax volume worked for me - I just have an HDMI connection from the Humax to my amp and from the amp to my TV. However, you can run an optical out to your amp as well as HDMI ( I used to do that) which may be a workaround

Hmmm... odd. Have you tried switching the HDMI? Also check to see if the HUMAX has any menu options related to sound output (and also - it's not on "mute"?!).

THIS IS ODD.

If i swap sorces via the av remote ie from sat to HDP (Freesat) the volume / sound is present. AS SOON as i change channel on the freesat the volume / sound is not present. To get it back on i have to swap sources again to Sat(sky) Then backbagain to HDP freesat?

confused
