Hi All

Today i connected my sky to my rotel amp to give me enhanced stereo sound, i noticed a background hum.

First of i tried disconnecting my turntable rca lead hum gone.

Second unpluged my t/t from the multiplug which takes amp and cd, and plugged into twin wall soket which powers multi plug hum stil there until plug removed.

Thirdly plugged sky box into same power socket as amp and tt hum still there.

Hum not present on aux2 or cd or tuner only on aux 1 which sky connected

Help please

If its an earth problem could be all your equipment cables, sometimes putting mains cables next to signal cables can make humming a problem, also it can be caused by a ground loop problem, usually trying to isolate your different cables sometimes helps.

did you ground your turntable to your amp? Usually the amp and teh turnatble both have an earth stub. You need to connect the two together to ensure they both have teh same ground plane. This always reduces hum, if not eliminates it.

Having said that, digi top boxes like your sky box, etc, tend to be quite dirty EMP generators. Electronics are simple and dirt cheap (quite literally "dirt"). You may want to put it in a different socket than your audio equipment.

Thanks for the replies i have checked earth's and tried different power outlets hum still there so i just unplug tt when running sky to amp, just one of those things i guess!!

Make sure your tt has a separate earth wire connected to either your main amp or your external phono amp. I have just fixed the same problem.
