how much of an overlap should you have between your speakers and sub?

My MA Pl100s say they go down to 42hz sub will go up to 95 hz - is there a formula to calculate the perfect crossover point or is this just one of those room dependant experiment and see?

just trying to get best set up but very hard on your own and won't have any help till sunday!

As a starting point I would experiment with a crossover point on the sub of around 50Hz.
