Having been a constant subscriber to your marvellous publication for around 15 years now, I should like to politely request assistance from you with some direct and personal advice.

I wonder if you could help me? I am trying to create a home cinema. The room concerned is an exact rectangular shape of maximum dimensions: - roughly 20 metres long by 5 metres wide (could be made smaller, if necessary). I have a budget of £4000 for Processor/amp & speakers only. Could you please give me your recommendations for these two aspects? The room will be sound-proofed & capable of complete “Black-out”.

Also, could you tell me how much you would allocate for interconnects/cables etc. to go with the above? Again what would you recommend?

I have already purchased an “infocus 76”, which I came across some time ago at a very good price. How does this compare with other projectors up to £1000?

Would I have enough, if I budgeted another £500 for a suitable blue ray player? Once again what recommendations?

Finally, how much difference does the quality of the screen, itself, have on the final result? What should I spend on this item? And again what would you select?

Any other tips?

With very many thanks in anticipation of your kind assistance and best wishes,

Gary Owram.

The best matching and best sounding combination I've ever heard for AV is the yamaha DSPZ7 with an MK 750thx package - everyone who has heard it at our showroom have been seriously impressed by it. The sheer scale they produce bely their relatively small cabinets, and the amount of forthright detail on offer is beyond any hi-fi speaker package.

The Z7 drives them perfectly. It just seems to be one of those synergy matches you only seem to normally get with hi-fi, and to hear it with AV is even more of a treat.

The DSPZ7 can be had for around £1,500, leaving £2,500 for the speakers. The LCR750thx fronts are about £1,200 for the front 3, the matching surrounds are £850, and the ideal matching sub is £995. Yes, this takes you a little over, but with the sales at the moment, it would bring it within budget.

Stunning system.

WOW Gary thats a long room, it will be interesting to hear WHF view is

I'm sure there will be more recommendations forthcoming , David's as always is a good choice

Id humbly suggest a demo of a Denon 2500BT if you can live with its slow load up time , was £900 can now be got for £399.00

Also a Pioneer LX71 and Sony 760 at the same time

Regards

Andy

Agree with reccomendations so far, and yes the Sony BDP-S760 will be fine as the Blu-ray player.

Only major problem I can see is the size of the room, which will create problems with projector throw distances unless you sit well forward in the space. I'd suggest a maximum projector to screen distance of somewhat less than half the length of the room, and preferably even less.
