Advice please. New to the home cinema my entry level is likely to be

Sony STR-DH810 Receiver with Sony BDP-S570 Blueray and an MJ Acoustics Pro 50 mkII Subwoofer

Tv is a sony kdl40-3000 which have had for a year. Would it be possible to use the speakers from Philips HTS9800 Home cinema system. The speakers are ok but the subwoofer as had it, are is it better to have new speakers.

Thanks

Glenn

You could use the satellites, but most of these can go just to 120-150hz and are not really ideal, as for the subwoofer if it is a passive one, then it cannot work with an AV amp as, they only have a line out with no amplification. I would go for a budget speaker package and some decent cables for better results.

With the sub costing about £300, I'd go for a new set of speakers such as the Tannoy SFX for £250, (heard EFX with Sony HD500 and was very good). But there are also other options in a similar price bracket from Jamo, QAcoustics and others.

I'd say getting full set of speakers you'll get better and better integrated all round sound than just getting an active sub.
