I am wanting to upgrade my current system.

I have inherited early '80's Klipsh Heresy loudspeakers and have them hooked up to a Denon AVR 988 (100w / channel). I also have a Klipsch RW 12d sub (350w). Sources = Oppo blue ray-HDCD, and Technics SL 1200 MK5.

When only listening to music, I would like to get more from the system. Is it worth it to add power amps (monoblocks) to the Heresy's? Possibly tubes?

Or, as the video suggests, just use the pre outs and go thru a stereo amplifier?

Thoughts?

I really liked the Klipsch Heresys when I went to a small bake-off where we used them. Apart from them being too lean in the bass. With a sub, or even better 2 subs, you should get a very nice sound. At the bake-off we tried a Prima Luna push pull and Coincident Frankenstein SET valve amps. The SET sounded better, giving a really clear, transparent, natural, detailed, dynamic sound.

So yes, you can expect a nice upgrade to the sound with a good SET amp.
