Yes, I've used the Hi-Fi Sound test record, probably about 10 times in 30 years. Really only when I've had a major move around.
The point is to set up the turntable using your own hearing. I don't see any way a computer could be used, though I'll be intrigued if anyone knows of a way.
I believe Audio Affair sell the Hi-Fi News one.
Sorry in advance if I have offended anyone by mentioning 2 publications which are not WHFSV!

You can use the computer to analyse the waveform etc

I recorded the 300Hz test tone and put it through Audacity.

It picks it up as 298Hz — indicating that the deck is mildly slow by a percent or so?

Then checking out the two channels, one is -1.6dB and the other is 2.1dB — so is my cart aligned? bias need adjusting? (or is my amp? can try the same thing with a digital input I guess) etc etc
