Hi level sub outs

When feeding a sub a high level signal from an amp and passing the filtered high level from sub to satellite/stereo speakers, is the amp still wasting power trying to reproduce deep bass?

If not am I right in thinking that the amp will generate louder output from the main speakers before running out of steam?

This situation dosn't really apply to me. I thought about it and got confused when trying to answer a qustion from QBass.

The amp will still be running full-range, yes.
