Do you guys do regulalr dustings/cleanings etc inside the casing of your amps, CDP etc. I mainly ask as my foolish flatmate did some impromtu DIY near my new stereo and it's resulted in the amp cutting out after a little while. (I think it's overheating and was about to open it up to dust it).

Just thought I'd check to see if there are some do's and don'ts.

Cheers, Andy

Hi, In 18 years I've never cleaned out my Audiolab amp, but it sounds as though you've got some debris in your amp so I'd recommend a spray duster aerosol, take the top off and give it a quick blow. I don't need to tell you to unplug it, and warn you that amps have big capacitors which still have charge after being unplugged from the mains, so don't touch anything inside.

If you're at all worried about doing anything I'd advise taking it to a specialist.

I remember a thread some time ago from a user who'd cleaned a rented flat screen TV with disasterous consequences, anyone remember that one??

A vacuum on a low level will suck out most debris (and no fuses if fitted) just make sure to unplug the amp before any un-screwing ensues........

Wallop the clot round the head with a nearby damp newspaper and ask him to get you a new amp. Dolt!

Joking aside, never tried it, and if it's cutting out, take it into a service engineer to let them have a look. Getting deja vu here tonight!
