I did buy the MAS110. ...Stylish and elegant this system definitely is, an integrated ipod player this system definitely is NOT.
Unlike any other system on the market, once the ipod is docked, all functionality is lost via the ipod, and supposedly transferred to the remote control. This however, is where it all falls apart. The remote has no 'scan' or 'go to' functionality, ..the basic functionality required for operating and listening to an ipod. To clarify, this means that assuming your 160gb ipod contains 160gb of music, and you wanted to listen to 'The Zepher song', you'd need to press the '>' button 160,000 times, or if you wanted to listen to albums by 'The Weepies', not only would the moment have passed, but you'd have cramp in your thumb too!
Basically, you are pretty much restricted to listening to tracks, artists or albums beginning with 'A', or alternatively using the 'Random' button and letting the system choose for you. I assumed that this was as a result of a fault with either the ipod dock or the remote, ..I even read the instruction manual! ..however HK have eventually confirmed that this is infact a design feature, and that the MAS110 is designed predominantly for the charging of your ipod and listening to random tracks only.
If as it would seem, Harman Kardon have not yet developed the technology to provide ipod functionality via their system, then like every other ipod dock on the market, including their own 'play and go' system, control of the ipod needs to remain with the ipod. ...simples!
The MAS110 is essentially a very beautiful, decent sounding, extremely expensive DAB radio (assuming you can get a signal!). If Harman Kardon have got anything to do with it, Abba will soon be experiencing a very successful revival, ..however The Zutons are stuffed!
