Hi Fi Behind You

This may be a silly question, but has anyone set up their hi-fi behind them? Most systems pictured are set up in front. I'm about to start my annual office clear out. By moving everything about I could fit a hifi in behind where I sit. Speakers would be close together would be the only thing. I have some old bits of equipment sitting about I could use. I mostly been using headphones and occasionally the speakers that came with computer. No room on desk for a proper set up.

Just thought I'd ask before shifting the filing cabinets.

Would the speakers be behind you?

The Hi-Fi is no problem, but the speakers are meant to be in front to create a soundstage. The same as seeing a live concert.

However, it's your equipment your ears and your decision.

Try it and see if you like it

Its not really a problem. you will have a lesser sound stage than if it was infront of you however its better than a poke in the eye with a rubber duck. go for it

Do a test, listen to your main system for a few minutes and then turn your head 180 degrees. Does it still sound OK?

The SQ wont be optimum as ears are designed to pick up sound from the front, but you are going to still hear it. I would say if you want to conduct in depth listening then its not really going to work for you, but if your listening is more "casual" then it should do just fine.
