I hope someone could help me with this ! I've got a Yamaha ysp-600 Soundbar hooked up to my PS3 through HDMI. I'm pretty sure the Soundbar isn't capable of HD Audio so I set the PS3 to regular DD 5.1 along with the default PCM 2.1 setting.
The problem is I'm not sure if the soundbar is capable of handling regular 5.1 either through an HDMI cable.
The manual states " This unit is compatible with 2 channel PCM signals but not with multi channel PCM signals" Is regular DD 5.1 through HDMI still classes as multichannel PCM?
I also found a quote on another forum from somone from Yamaha stating
Hi,
Thanks for the email
Yes you are correct the YSP will default to a 2ch pcm audio signal when it
receives HD audio, sorry.
With any blu-ray disc you can select from the discs own menu to select
other audio options (ie 5.1)
Many thanks

I've accepted the lack of HD audio but could someone confirm whether I am getting DD 5.1 through HDMI? The DD light is on showing it is receiving a DD signal but I'm not sure if it's outputting in 5.1 or just stereo?!
If not what is the point in the HDMI connection when you have to use optical instead to get DD!
Hope someone can help.
