help-sub advice please

hello,

ive got an aego m series,  i wanted to connect the sub to my stereo for abit of extra bass when i dj i connented the mono out to sub using a single interconnect but it had half the power it normally has. do i have to use a proper subwoofer lead that goes into right and left on sub?or am i missing something
