Help regarding Marantz tt15-S1 turntable

Hi Guys,

My first post here, I ran into some issue during my first foray into the analog world. I got the Marantz tt15 turntable alond with the Jolida JD9 II pre-amp. The pre-amp is connected to my Marantz 7008 receiver. The issue is that I am receiving a lot of background noise when the tonearm is resting and also clear background noise hum when a record is playing especially during vocal heavy passages. I tried on a variety of new records but couldn't get the noise away. When the tt is not connected to the preamp but the preamp is connected to the receiver, I still hear noise which gets a bit louder when the tt is plugged in to the receiver. The noise goes away to a large extent when the record starts playing but not completely.

Is it earthed?

I connected the earth wire from turntable to the earth point on the jolida pre amp which is connected directly to the power socket in the wall which should be earthen.

I would say you have a problem with your Jolida Phono preamp - like you don't need one.

Assuming you have the standard moving magnet cartridge fitted then the receiver already has a phono stage in it. You should connect turntable directly to the 7008.
