Help please re new DAC not working

I have recently purchased a foobar DAC which I have connected to a fairly old Audiolab amp but I am getting no sound. I have obviously connected the DAC to my Dell inspiron windows PC and it has detected the device - no problem. I have read in other forums that the connection to the USB overides the soundcard. I can't figure what I am doing wrong. The DAC is connected to the Tape input on the amp - although I have tried other input sources - all to no avail. The orginal computer speakers still work when turned on so it would appear that the USB/DAC is not overriding the set up. Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem would be welcome. Robin

What version of Windows are you using Robin?

It's probably a case of going into the Control Panel, into the Audio Devices (probably "Sound"), and making sure the foobar is selected as the primary audio device...
