hi,

i am looking to upgrade my sony receiver. looking at the reviews the onkyo tx-nr5009, the pioneer sc-lx85 and the denon 4311 all seem well regarded and capable. does anyone have any thoughts or comments on this? is there a standout?

any info welcome, am sure i'd be happy with any of these, but would love some feedback!

cheers

Hi there. Looking at the system you've got, we'd suggest looking at something along the lines of the Onkyo TX-NR3009. All the amps you mention are briliant machines but they really need a more expensive surround package to make the most of them (no offence). You'll still get all the fine onkyo traits of excellent detail dynamics and processing, but in a slightly more suitable package. Perhaps you could put the money you save toward a new BD player/cabling etc?

Thanks so much Andy - thought this may be the case! I am somewhat looking for an element of future proofing, as I am keen to upgrade speakers soon too. Given what you say, where might one look in the speaker space to justify these receivers would you suggest? Am a fan of b&w, though if, in their range it is something that begins with "8" I am almost certain it will end in "divorce" ;)
