Hello all, I have just moved house and want to buy a small basic Hifi sysyem. It will be either going into my dinning room which is 4 x 5 meters or the living room which is 4 x 8 meters. I like the look of the Marantz CR 502 and was wondering which floor standing speakers will go with it the best. I like the look of the 10.3 from wharfedale, monitor audio br5 or maybe the iq5se kef's. Cost, well I don't realy want to spend more than £750. Once I have a short list I will go and have a test drive !!!

I used to have a sony, marantz and b&w set up some years ago, but like a fool sold it ! I long for the days of some nice crisp sounds !

Thanks for any help in advance

Think £750 is pretty steep for the 502, so I'd point you towards the likes of Q Acoustics 1030i, KEF's iq5, Mordaunt-Short 914i or the 906i's, both of which all of which have reviewed well. If you fancy something meatier, then check out the Q Acoustics 1050i which is a former Hi Fi World award winner for 2008 and you can snag them for under £200. See also a new model from a German company called Teufel reviewed in WHF a month or two back. Circa £370 in their case. Direct order and you can try out at home for a few weeks, so maybe worth shortlisting. The review is on the site here.

Hi, thanks for you help, I didn't word my post to well as I should have put £750 including the CR 502. I will take a look at the speakers you have listed. Thanks again

LOL, no worries, in that case, the Q's or the M-S speakers would definitely be worth checking out. Terrific value for money now that the new range has come in to replace the original line.
