Help me please onkyo 606 v sony str-da2400 es

I have sony 40" lcd tv, sky hd and ps3. I am looking to buy my first av amp and speakers. I went to richer sounds they recommended the onkyo 606 and tannoy fx5.1 speakers for £600 I then went to the sony shop to see what they had and they had the new str-da2400es and the salesman said the onkyo wasn't as good as it doesn't have all the new hd codecs. I have heard there are problems with the new sony with sky hd and sound. What would my best option be out of these 2 amps or something else?

Well, haven't heard the Sony but I can confirm the Onkyo 606 does decode all the new HD codecs so you were misinformed there.
