Help! Confused newbie...

I've just bought an old Akai amp off Ebay and some brand new Mission MX1 speakers. The problem is, when I set them up I'm not getting any bass at all. I've tried playing music from both my laptop and my phone and get the same result. However when I plug my headphones directly into the amp the sound quality is fine. Do you reckon this is a problem with the compatibility of amp/speakers set up, or just that the amp is broken?

By the way I'm a newbie and haven't really a clue when it comes to hifi set ups, so any help is greatly appreciated!

sometimes the jumper bars that connect the two sets of binding posts on the speakers arent fitted as new, (or even could be missing from the box). they will look like two small brass connectors, ie one for each speaker. apologies if they are in place already but please check. if they are missing you can always cut 4 tiny runs of speaker cable to do the same job. heres a video with the jumpers in place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGLtYL-umWA

oh its two per speaker, there should be 4 then.
