Has the Cyrus created a dilemma?

With the new Cyrus cd player having a variety of superlatives hurled at it, has this created a rod for your own back to some degree, in that by all accounts, other players in the same price bracket (and possibly even a little higher) are going to fall short by comparison?

How - for instance - would the Naim compare now and is it likely to drop a star grading consequently?

Well to me it just means that the CD war is over (haven't heard it, obviously, just speculating) - there's only one player you need to buy, and now you can concentrate on all the things that really make your setup sound better - amps and speakers

Now, if they'd make a full width one with great knobs, I might even buy it............

Well the Arcam CD17 is up against it next month, so that may give an inkling into how inferior all other players are going to become. The 5 star rating (we'd have given it more...) must mean that all others are adjusted. The manufacturers must be thinking that they won't supply product for the head to heads as they are bound to lose stars.

Good luck to Cyrus though for pulling something out of the bag like this. I'm surprised it's taken so long for mid-priced units to stop relying on the Philips transport and I'm equally as surprised that a number of the smaller brands didn't embark on doing this together rather like happens in the automotive market with cars sharing a floorplan.

The Cyrus CD6SE and CD8SE will be the new benchmark against which all other cd players will be judged against, in this price bracket and above. I wonder how much better the CD8SE can be, when this was described as an 'astonishing product'.
