Something I set a snipe on has just gone for significantly less than the snipe I set on Goofbay, basically it didn't snipe. Grrrrrrrr. Idiots. I'm really very unhappy.

tried Goofbay snipe a few years ago ... had the same prob .... now I do all bidding manually (sometimes have to wake up at 2am to bid on something in the USA) ...

now I sometimes end up bidding more that I anticipated

There is nothing that can describe how annoyed I am with Goofbay. This opportunity will not come up again.

Does that mean you used a programme to put in a bid, but it failed and you have ended up paying your maximum price instead?

Would you like to share details of the item in question....assuming its hifi related?

No, it means that Joel totally missed out on the bidding and didn't win the amp (?) he was after.

hi fi newbie:Why not just simply set up a max limit?

because then it gives the other interested bidders the oportunity to outbid you

the trick is to bid with your max bid (proxy bid) in the last few seconds of the auction, thius not allowing other bidders enough time to place a higher bid

Sniping software automatically places your max bid in the last few seconds (when it works properly)

No, it means I didn't put a bid in, the item went for £991 which was way way less than I was prepared to spend. Someone has just got an ex demo £3,300 amp for £991. I was prepared to go to just over £1,500 as they rarely/never come up second hand.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everything in life happens for a reason .... was not meant to be yours .... you most prob will find something much better for cheaper in a few days

I'll cry into my beer along with you Joel but I dont think that will make you feel any better.

Highly unlikely, I've been looking for about 9 months now. This particular amp was up for £2,250 twice before they put it on auction. I've been watching it all week, salivating. I've got someone coming to audition my Maestro tomorrow which I'm going to have to cancel.

Grrrrr, and grrrrr again.

the guy that won it could have offered 2k so you still might not have won but just pushed the price up for him - however that bidder just got one hell of a bargain! i find it always worth looking out for the slightly more obscure stuff - stuff like arcam and cyrus ect in my opinion always go for more than they are really worth while stuff like this that only a handful of ppl know what it is go for bargains!

thats life ... here was a bargain that ended tonight .... these are really good and are very very rare .... sadly, I did not have the cash

JoelSim:I am so angry I have just sent a strongly worded email to Goofbay.

That will make you feel better in the short term, but based on my previous experience you will just get frustrated because they may only send some platitudes in return (which amount to nothing) or completely ignore you.

matengawhat:email the buyer with a higher offer - explain what happened - the buyer might not be able to pay/have the money immediately ect

was thinking the same (it's not the right thing to do, but worth a chance?) ....

seller may take your offer and tell the other buyer it got damaged whilst packing .... just be carefull and best to pay in cash on collection (if possible) as if you pay with paypal, you will have no protection if the seller does not ship ....

if the seller agrees, perhaps a day off work tommorow?

happens often on ebay, especially when an item sells for substantially less than what the buyer wanted for it
